I-526 . . . The Plan
and Some Alternatives
A presentation by
the Coastal Conservation League
Sponsored by
the Kiawah Property Owners Group (KPOG)
Wednesday, March 26
7:30 pm
The Sandcastle
I-526 currently ends at Route 17, although
the original plans call for extending the highway across the Stono
River and Johns Island to the James Island Connector. The Coastal
Conservation League and the Concerned Citizens of the Sea Islands
recently hired Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin, traffic engineering
consultants, to work with the Charleston community to develop
alternatives to the plan, first drafted in the 1960s.
After a series of design “charettes” or interactive sessions with
elected officials, community leaders, and residents, they have
developed a series of engineering alternatives that consider current
and projected traffic patterns, as well as new planning concepts.
Explore the plan and proposed alternatives with us at this open
meeting.
