TOWN COUNCIL TABLES
ORDINANCE TO CHANGE TERM OF OFFICE
The Town Council voted unanimously to table Ordinance
2004-2 after two public hearings were held on the previous day. They
took the action so there would be more time available to better
inform the Kiawah Electorate on the pro and cons of changing the
present two-year term of office to staggered four-year terms.
After discussion and several motions, the
Council decided to ask the State Attorney General for an opinion on
the legality of the various ways the change in term of office could
be done. Several Councilmen stated they preferred a non-binding
referendum at the December Election. It appears that a change in
term of office, if done, will not be implemented with this
December’s Election.
