News from the Mid Year meeting...
-
150 members attended Monday evening's semi annual KPOG meeting to
hear updates from Marty Yonas, President of KICA, Mayor Bill Wert,
and Managing Director of KIGR Prem Devadas.
-
KRA sent information stating that Freshfields will open in
March of 2005.
-
Marty Yonas explained the process by which KICA is
evaluating the wants and needs of the Sandcastle in an
upcoming renovation program. Final details including the costs
and method of financing are not yet available.
-
Prem Devadas, Managing Director for the Resort, presented
plans for the Ocean Course Clubhouse and Golf cottages and
explained the reasoning for demolition of the West Beach Inn.
According to Mr. Devadas, the Resort didn't want West Beach
customers to leave Kiawah giving adverse publicity for
inferior accommodations. Responding to a question from the
floor, Prem told the crowd that, at this time, there are no
plans to allow access to the Spa, Fitness Center and Pool in
the new hotel to anyone other than hotel guests.
-
10/10/03 - We reported in
the last news alert that Kiawah Island Golf Resort would not
permit use of the Spa, Fitness Center, and Swimming Pool at
the new hotel to anyone other than hotel guests. In actuality,
use of the Spa will be open to the public and Governor's Club
members will receive their normal 15% discount when using the
facility.
-
Roger Warren, Director of Golf for KIGR, addressed issues
pertaining to the Governor's Club. Mr. Warren said the GC is a
valued entity for the Resort and they have no intentions of
reducing privileges. However, policy violations now taking
place must be corrected, and he personally is responsible for
producing an acceptable bottom line.
-
In discussing the Roundabout, Mayor Bill Wert explained
the Town's decision to raise the final elevation by
approximately 1 ft. In actuality, KRA made the initial request
for change. The additional cost involved, and who pays, was
not discussed.
-
10/10/03 - In reporting
on Mayor Wert's presentation on the status of the Roundabout
at the KPOG semi annual meeting, we stated that the initial
dialog to raise the elevation of the Roundabout was initiated
by KRA. While we believe this to be the case, it was not a
statement to insinuate that the Town gave into the wishes of
the Developer. As reported by Mayor Wert, the Town performed
its own study under the direction of Councilman Steve Orban
and, along with the SCDOT, concluded the change was justified
and appropriate to provide proper drainage during periods of
high tide.
-
Mayor Wert also provided insight into the new emergency
communications program to be provided for all residents. The
system has the capability of calling all Kiawah phone numbers
simultaneously, or can be discretionary with location. One
secondary number can be added for those who also have an
off-island residence.
