Meeting of the Board of Directors

December 5, 2007

MINUTES

A meeting of the Kiawah Property Owners Group (KPOG) Board of Directors was held at the Sandcastle on Kiawah Island at 9:00 AM, Wednesday, December 5, 2007.    

Present:  PPresident Diane Lehder called the meeting to order and took roll call.  Present were Secretary Sandy Williams, Treasurer, Ben Farabee, and Board Members, Laurie Burpee, Katie Kotz, and Ron Ritchie.  Vice President Art Morgenstern attended by phone.  Also present was Barbara Winslow, TALK Editor.

Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the November 2007 Board Meeting were accepted as written.

Treasurer’s Report:  Treasurer Ben Farabee reported that as of December 5, 2007, we have $7,172.95 in our checking account and $50, 358.94 in savings for a total of $57,531.89. Our CD is valued at $105,818.87.

 

Membership Report:  The membership letters are at the printer and will be mailed on January 3rd.

 

OLD BUSINESS

  • Miscellaneous: Barbara Winslow had surveyed the Board to obtain their approval for KPOG to provide holiday refreshments for Hope Services. The Board gave Barbara permission to take care of providing the refreshments.

  • Nominating Committee Nominating Committee Chair Sandy Williams reported that the committee was close to completing a slate of officers and directors for election at the Annual Meeting in March. President Diane Lehder suggested that the Committee find out particular areas of interest for any remaining candidates so that they might be called on to assist on specific projects during the coming year.

  • Meeting Dates: The following dates were selected for Board meetings in 2008: February 6, 2008, March 5, 2008, and April 9, 2006. Secretary Sandy Williams will reserve the room at the Sandcastle for the meetings as well as notify KICA of the dates for the DIGEST.

  • By-laws: The Board continued its discussion of proposed changes to KPOG’s by-laws.  The proposed changes will be presented to the membership for approval at the March Annual Meeting.

  • Safety & Security:  The traffic counts for November are as follows:

  • Freshfields: At the November “Mornings with Joe”, it was reported that Mayor Wert was waiting for a 2nd consultant’s study for an alternative source of funding for the amphitheatre at Freshfields. President Diane Lehder will put in a FOIA request for this study when it becomes available.

  • Town of Kiawah Island: President Diane Lehder has requested information from the Town as to its policy regarding contributions to charitable organizations as well as what organizations receive these contributions.

    Diane has requested a meeting on January 4, 2008 with Mayor Wert to share a “plain English” document explaining the Freedom of Information Act, and to discuss how it impacts the Town’s communications
